June Caregiver of the Month – Merissa N.

Merissa with son, Isaiah (10)

In 2015 my son was diagnosed with Autism; after his diagnosis, I knew I had to wipe my tears and be my son’s most prominent advocate. Caring for a loved one with special needs can profoundly impact caregivers, requiring significant time, energy, and emotional investment. It involves emotional, lifestyle, physical, financial, social, personal, and relationship changes. Emotional exhaustion may occur, while lifestyle changes, physical demands, and financial strain may arise. Social isolation may occur, and caregivers may develop resilience, compassion, patience, and empathy. Caregivers must prioritize their well-being, seek support, and utilize available resources to maintain healthy relationships.

Thank you for this opportunity; I am honored.
